Cape Cod Symposium on Addictive Disorders

Last weekend I attended the C4 Recovery Solutions Board meeting and portions of the Cape Cod Symposium on Addictive Disorders.  It was great to see colleagues with whom I have lost touch over the years.  It is also exciting to see advances in treatment for substance use disorders and to feel the enthusiasm that substance professionals feel for their field.  I also liked the opportunity to talk with adults who know how to listen to others in a mutually supportive way.  Hearing my story was just as important to them as was their story for me.  I am not used to such mutuality!

I attended a session about trauma-informed treatment for men.  I have advocated for some time that men’s issues with body image, sexuality, and abuse should be attended to.  Hearing about the emergence of a substance abuse treatment strategy specifically designed to address these issues for men was exciting.
